Age 4 through 2nd Grade: Godly Play

Godly Play is an introduction to Christian Education through the art of STORYTELLING. The curriculum of Godly Play teaches children about the Bible through the telling of stories.

During the 10AM service’s opening hymn, students gather and process to the classroom with a “greeter.” Godly Play classes are instructed by a teacher/storyteller specifically trained for the position by participation in an accredited Godly Play workshop. We are fortunate to have an energetic team of 12 volunteer teacher/storytellers who instruct on a rotating basis. Children sit on a rug with the teacher who tells them different stories from the Bible, or parables, and then encourages the children to enter into the story themselves. They place themselves in the situation, wonder about it, talk about it, and form a connection.

The Godly Play classroom is unique in that it is a non-traditional approach to Christian Education. The model is closer to a Montessori classroom (‘children’s house’ or ‘living room’), which creates a supportive and safe environment encouraging children to come closer to God through stories and wondering. In addition to the Godly Play curriculum, the youth also participate in a Christmas pageant and bi-annual Youth services.
